"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." Matthew 24:9-14

Could the refusal of the righteous to disobey G-d, even at the hand of punishment and death, be the gospel witness which forces every last person on Earth to make their final decision?

i think it has something to do with it .:) the GOODNEWS about the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth and it is for a witness or to put on notice, this announcing about this KINGDOM is GOODNEWS indeed , and those who put their trust in this kingdom with Jesus as king ,will go on to recieve great blessings not only now but for ever. and yes as you mentioned , he that has endured to the end will be the one who will be saved . there is no salvation in anyone else but Jesus ,he has been given great aurthority in this newly established heavenly goverment Daniel 2;44 daniel 7;13-14 and the world is in great opposition to this newly enthroned king , even though it is GOODNEWS.so anyone who puts their trust in this king will have great opposition. because the wicked one SATAN THE DEVIL is in opposition to God and as 1 JOHN 5;19 Says, the whole world is in the power of the wicked one . but he who has endured is the one that will be saved. i have put my vote in for Gods reigning king JESUS CHRIST.

By the grace of God, it works.
The Truth is only brutal at the beginning.

(Mark 13:10) Also, in all the nations the good news has to be preached first.

I believe a micro version of this was witnessed during the persecution of Christians after Nero in Rome. Because the Christians in the arena went to their deaths in refusal of disobeying God, the spectators (who were hardened of heart to the point of enjoying gory deaths), were also empty in soul and desperate for something more. That "more" came from the courage and serenity of the dying Christians in front of them.

They wanted what the Christians had...which eventually began the massive conversion of Rome to Christianity.

yes those early christians displayed great endurance even to death.
(Revelation 2:10) Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. Look! The Devil will keep on throwing some of YOU into prison that YOU may be fully put to the test, and that YOU may have tribulation ten days. Prove yourself faithful even to death, and I will give you the crown of life..................................... there is no need to wonder where those early christians are now .......... they are in heaven with Jesus christ in the heavenly kingdom goverment , they are certainly wearing their crowns of everlasting life . they are part of the little flock spoken of in LUKE 12;32
"Have no fear, little flock, because your Father has approved of giving you the kingdom."—LUKE 12:32.

I also ask myself - would I be willing to die for G-d?

I think I would. I hope I would. When it got right down to it, I don't know what I'd do except to pray for strength to handle it.

By the Holy Spirit are those faced with death for the sake of the Lord Jesus made able to endure. It is not anything they do of themselves :)

Under what circumstances would you think you would have to? I mean surely G-d does not wish to just toy with us to see which hoops we would jump thru. And surely G-d has enough self esteem intact where it wouldn't be for that benefit...

There are probably several examples of this kind of account if one digs a little. I remember this one from Foxe's Book of Martyrs about the execution of one Nicholas Burton:

"This Nicholas Burton by the way, and in the flames of fire, had so cheerful a countenance, embracing death with all patience and gladness, that the tormentors and enemies which stood by, said, that the devil had his soul before he came to the fire; and therefore they said his senses of feeling were past him."
