Selling the other companies product?

You have the pope praising Islam....... And I started to look into Salesmen pitching others products...... This is quite old but came across this...

BBC News | UK | Become Jewish, says bishop

Thoughts?

I can just see it now as the masses queue up for circumcision lol

in some ways I agree I thinks better that people are trying to get to god than not at all, even if they are on the wrong path at least they are looking

I think the bishops intentions are well meant. Indeed, once upon a moon I contemplated such a move. But as any Jew will tell you, conversion to Judaism is a very difficult process. In fact, the rabbis will reject you a number of times. One needs to be absolutely convinced of the move or don't bother. I drifted in the Noachide realm briefly, only because of a renewed shake up in my Christian beliefs, but I found there was virtually no fellowship there, and even if I were to worship in the synagogue, I'd still feel like an outsider. I came back to Christ, but with a fresh outlook.

Thanks for the posts and thoughts and opinons all.

Glory: So if you are a Bishop of a religion (which you believe and "know" to be the only path.) It is a good thing to send people in the wrong direction?

You not going to get in the queue then Glory? hehe.

Dondi: Como estas!!!? Then you thought about the snip right? (as glory mentioned lol) I'd be a jew cause I think it looks cool... But I couldn't let them give my johnson a haircut... The thought of it makes me cringe.

I think the fact that the rabbi recjected you is a good thing Dondi. No not because I want you to be hurt, and not because I don't think you're fit to be a jew and no not because I think Judaism is wrong. But, I think if you are wanting to join a religion you are making a statement.... And you must be sure of it I guess. Dem there rabbis took it purty serious eh? They wanted you to proove to them you knew what you was doing

No fellowship? Interesting! what was your experience amongst the crowds?

But hey cool to see you got a fresh outlook... The same old view can become tiring eh? move a slight angle may see something bit better. So if I came to you Dondi and said, hey listen fellah.... COMO ESTAS?!... No If I came to you and said... Hey fellah I want to join a religion but I am not too sure about christ man....

Would you say "become a jew!" ?

I think I see where G2G is coming from. Probably this is the way I always felt about it, though now I mean it even more broadly when I say "at least they are looking." Become Jewish says Bishop is the article, but its an Anglican bishop and they get to speak their minds, I guess.

It reminds me of the time when Thomas said to me "Why not convert, if you feel so strongly?" http://www.interfaith.org/forum/trinity-8565-8.html

Sometimes converting is worth it, just like joining the military can be worth it; but always weigh the costs first, not second. Generally the main problem with conversion is it always limits your possible friendships. Every time someone converts to anything the world gets to be slightly more of a lonely place. Unless of course everybody you know is converted, which makes the world a happy place except for you, who are forced to be lonely.

Threats, bribes and pleadings don't seem to work on G!d, so what is conversion except a school we place ourselves into with its rules, walls, friends, privileges and responsibilities? I really don't think G!d pays attention to what I sprinkle myself with or dunk myself in anymore. As a provisional Christian then, (Baptized into more than one school), I say what is better for the individual is to seek the good of others. This true 'Conversion' comes back with real results, not just membership cards. It will test your mettle, and you'll fail constantly which is better than succeeding at nothing.

Yeah but I mean, what if you combine all three together into a threat-bribe-pleading? Then it would have triple power.

if that's richard harries (the bish of oxford) he is generally regarded as an all-round good egg. however, this quote seems to read like: "well, if you can't be christian, being jewish is better than nothing" - and i can't really square that with what i know of how he thinks, it seems incredibly patronising. i can only assume there is some context we're not aware of; after all, he was saying it in the reform synagogue journal, they would hardly welcome such a message.

As has been said its not easy to become Jewish. I can call myself a Christian or Muslim, Buddhist or Pagan right now if I wanted to. What is so special about being a Jew that demands so much rigour before acceptance? Some say you are never fully accepted no matter what you do. Good thing? Bad thing? Confuses me a bit and it seems to be one of the touchy areas people tend to avoid.

I think you'd have to ask some converts to Judaism who didn't convert for marriage in order to get a decent answer.

Not sure I would have tried them all together, but maybe our lives are so short that its just as if. I try things one at a time like Wile E. Coyote does.

Also, small apology to Thomas:
I have changed my mind about some severe things I said, like accusing the Church of losing its liturgy. I don't really blame myself, however it is unfortunate things seemed that way. A gatecrasher (7th gen Protestant) like me has no clue what their liturgy means, since it is a mystery. We start out thinking we do, but uh... This places Catholic apologists like Thomas into the tricky position of defending their liturgy without revealing it, so there you go, round & round. To discuss deeper I probably would need to convert, just as Thomas insisted was the case.

You could. As could anyone. Whether or not it actually meant anything though is an entirely different matter!

Nothing precious, just not true!

If I say I am an Albanian and someone says "oh really, tell me about your country and your language and culture"...
