Frrosted said "You cut off the part where the bible is relevant. I want for the government to quit forcing me to monetarily support unbiblical acts. I expect that likewise, a skeptic would have a serious problem with the government taking his/her money and spending it to promote the bible.
This is where I usually get, "Yes! It's about time we evolved past that hideous practice." Indeed. It's not the government's place to force you to tithe to a certain religious cause. Similarly, it's not the government's place to force me to encourage a harlot's behavior by paying for her abortion or contraceptives."
I agree with most of your points here. The only place I have an issue is the inclusion at the end of a political talking point. Political talking points are almost always half truths, distortions of the truth, or outright lies.
Some facts. No one is forcing you to pay for abortion or contraceptives through your tax dollars.
Fact. No one who works for the federal government has this coverage as part of their health plans. If a federal employee wants contraceptives or an abortion they have to pay for it themselves.
Fact. The same is true for anyone in one of the branches of our U.S. military. Abortions and contraceptives must be paid for privately by the soldier.
The only case in which tax payers might be paying for these things is thru medicaid, a program that funds low income people who cannot afford services on their own. And even then it is typically only in the case of rape or incest or the danger of the mother's health. In other words, severely restricted.
Fact. The Obama Healthcare Act requires insurance companies to now pay for contraceptives and abortions. Health insurance companies are private businesses. They get no tax dollars for funding. They get their funding thru the outrageous charges they burden the American citizens with.
It really goes against my grain to get into politics anywhere except on a political forum. So I'm done. No putdown to you intended.
