Your Daily Rant

Last year, on a long road in Utah, I was doing 90mph and a semi-truck flew past me doing at least 105 mph, because I also tried to catch him and gave up at 100mph as he kept pulling away. I've never seen another semi doing 90mph, let alone 90+. And he wasn't staying in his lane. Such bad driving on his part.
 
Not a rant, a recollection ...

A friend of mine owned an Aston Martin. He took it to France, driving down to Le Mans for the 24 Hours. On the road he was scrupulous to observe the speed limit, and was driving along quite happily when a cop car drew up alongside, the cops making urgent hand signals. For a moment he thought that something was wrong, then he realised they wanted him to show them what an Aston could do!
 
Oops was referring to Steve's and didn't see Thomas's... Was in a friends Lamborghini when that happened to us...

I'd be pleased as punch if the rant column turned into a permanent fun memory thread!!

In the early 80's I drove a modified Plymouth Duster. Basically a street legal drag racer and had quite a few such encounters with law enforcement. They'd gun the motor of their police interceptor, I'd gun mine and off we'd go. My bitch, in keeping with the topic of the thread, even though I could run circles around the tank they were driving, you always had to let them win, lest the red lights would come on and you'd get a speeding ticket.... :(
 
My first car was a 72.chevelle.SS, later I picked up a 68 goat and a 69 LeMans.. I happened upon all these, I wasn't really into muscle cars

Why the fook do you keep putting poorly/unwashed dishes and flatware in the unused ones? Ditto measuring cups? Do you want to poison me? Dish soap and certain foods have been known to cause negative reactions due to caustic chemicals or food borne illnesses like listeria/salmonella/botulism/etc.

Stop using the washer/dryer as your toilet. Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern #3,

Stop using your oven for storing used shopping bags. I believe they can cause fires. And while you're at it, clear a decent space on your counter for your microwave oven. You're breaking your stove.

I was more into hot rods than the factory stuff. Get's expensive though, being able to pass everything, but a gas station. I still prefer the old rides, just not that interested in going fast anymore. My everyday car is a 1964 Corvair Convertible. Nice, but ain't going to win any stoplight derbies. :p

The dryer is busted. It doesn't do its job in drying your clothes.

Neither is it your personal loo. Using it this way defeats the purpose of the washer.

I hate self-serve checkouts!!! If I wanted a job as a cashier, I'd apply for one! A busy Saturday and out of 22 checkouts you have only 5 open. 4 self-serve and 1 actually manned. Incidentally, the one with the longest line. What does that tell you shopkeep? Perhaps your companies interests would better be served if 1 or 2 out of the 3 people you have milling about supervising the self-serve lanes, were to actually open another register and check people out properly! :mad:

That's why I avoid grocery shopping on Super Bowl Sunday and the World Series! I went once, and it was because I ran out of several staples (otherwise I would've stayed home with the :kitty: delegation!) The computer system for the card readers had crashed due to so many customers having to use it, and a group of underage kids tried to purchase beer (unsuccessfully.) Every lane was open, including the self-serve lanes.

I make it easier for myself by going the Friday or Saturday (Caturday) before or the Monday after if at all possible (fewer people in line grumbling about "The Game") or the first "freed up" day after I get a boost to my card.

Yeah, it was a busy Saturday, but in my case that's not what caused the back-up. They had 4 trained cashiers on payroll that could have easily handled the flow, but only one of them was actually assigned to a register. The others were supposedly supervising 4 nearly empty self-serve lanes, while the majority of their paying customers were standing in line at the only manned checkout. Can't tell you how many full shopping carts were left abandoned in the aisles by frustrated customers who just walked out. Ridiculous....

When someone asks you if you are going to a particular area, admit that you're not if you aren't. You're lucky that I knew the area that I was in as well as that public transportation was running after eleven pm. What part of Sandberg Hall/University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee sounds anything like Marquette University or Tripoli Shrine? I was lucky that I wasn't alone on the bus stop for long and that the other person was "safe".

To Whom It May Concern #2,

If you don't want the pizza that was left over right away, either take it with you to your apartment, offer it to someone else, put it in the refrigerator or throw it away. Do not leave it in the community room's microwave oven. That is a possible health hazard. (Before anyone asks, it was a slice of pepperoni pizza, which I'm allergic to.)

To Whom It May Concern #3,

Please don't "sing" along with Queen during their portion of the Opening Ceremony for the Academy Awards. You were murdering their songs by being both off-key and substituting much of the lyrics. Some of us are familiar with the actual songs that they were playing. I had to leave before I strangled you with my bare hands! Tovarish waited for me by the door, meowing her little heart out to calm me down.

Just because you are able to imbibe potent potable doesn't mean that you should. I'm going to be surprised if you got home okay from the drag show. Hell, you could barely stand! The only reason that I didn't take your keys is that I can't drive even sober. Anyway, you had so much to drink that I could tell what you like from at least three rows away.

I hope your kids got home okay, too.

This is a good rant for a change, because I could not be more proud of my Grandnephew right now. You see, his dad is a very verbally abusive individual. Always finding fault with others, while at the same time, failing to see his own. From the time my Grandnephew was little, he and his mother have had to endure his father's incessant rants, criticism and browbeating. Such was the case earlier this week when my grandnephew decided enough was enough.

His dad had been going on and on for sometime about something or the other, yelling and screaming at him and his mother. My Grandnephew tried to distance himself from the situation by going to his room, but his father followed and at some point grabbed him by the arm. That's when my nephew, now 14 and big for his age, laid his old man out! Socked him right in the eye! The next morning his dad had the prettiest shiner you ever saw.

His dad blubbered about it most of the night, but since then has been a model citizen. Where numerous attempts in the past to reason with him have failed, this little incident seems to have been his wake-up call. Let's hope it lasts.....
 
My rant for today is just about reading that rant above and feeling pretty terrible about the situation, made me want to cry really. Thank you though for sharing.
 
I went out with my Niece and Grandnephew grocery shopping yesterday. He and his mom are doing just fine and they report for once, his dad appears to have truly seen the error of his ways. It is unfortunate, but sometimes it takes a good knock in the head to get through to some people.

I might add, my Grandnephew's dad is not a bad guy really. It's just that he tends to take his frustrations out on others and prior to this indecent, failed to realize just how much harm he's was doing.
 
Yeah I hope no one has picked up those bad habits and all is well from now on!
