Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

I think we are the creator and the created.

In Him I live and breathe and have my being.

Being everywhere present, being that the kingdom is within, being that Jesus says we are all children of God, as him, being that he says we can do as he, our brother...I and the father are one.

We are all one...part and parcel of God.

Ours is but to realize our birthright as Jesus did, and lift the separation we created between earth (material) and heaven.

namaste,

namaste,

Hi Wil, Welcome to CR. :) Thank you for posting--I like this too.

24"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' (Acts 17, NIV)

I'm sure you will find others here who share your interpretation of this verse. A thread called alternative Christian awakenings might be of interest.

peace,
lunamoth

namaste,

jesus did not say everyone is children of God, he said some are children of the devil. the bible also does not say we are the creator.

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

If possible, as far as it depends upon you, be peaceable with all men. ....romans 12;18

(James 3:18) Moreover, the fruit of righteousness has its seed sown under peaceful conditions for those who are making peace

. The Greek word for "peaceable" literally means "peacemakers." There is often a difference between being peaceful—at peace—and being peaceable. Being peaceable in the Scriptural sense implies actively promoting peace, sometimes making peace where it was previously lacking.

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

(Deuteronomy 30:19) I do take the heavens and the earth as witnesses against YOU today, that I have put life and death before you, the blessing and the malediction; and you must choose life in order that you may keep alive, you and your offspring

Fear Jehovah and serve him with integrity and in truth . . . as for me and my household, we shall serve Jehovah."—Josh. 24:14, 15,

This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.....john 17;3

Therefore, if one knows how to do what is right and yet does not do it, it is a sin for him .......james 4;17............... doing things Gods way is always the best way and the bible is Gods word , that leads to everlasting life if we want it ,

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

For [the] eyes of Jehovah are upon the righteous ones, and his ears are toward their supplication; but [the] face of Jehovah is against those doing bad things..1 peter 3;12

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

Why do you pronounce Yhwh "Jehovah" ?
We don't know exactly how Yhwh was pronounced, but one thing we know it wasn't "Jehovah".

That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth. psalm 83;18 KJV
And they know that Thou -- (Thy name [is] Jehovah -- by Thyself,) [Art] the Most High over all the earth!..... Youngs litral translation
That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the most high over all the earth NWT

as you can see, different names, but the lord god knows when you call him, and what you ask for. therefore, confessing your sins and believing that jesus is our Lord and saviour is most important.

yes he hears those who have a sincere heart, and yes i can see that many bibles take the name away and put a title instead ,such as LORD .as God seems to want his name known it would not be a good thing to just put a title like LORD instead , still Jehovahs eyes are seeing what is going on and he is the judge,

From the rising of the sun until its settingJehovahs name is to be praised.... psalm 113;3

(Exodus 9:16) But, in fact, for this cause I have kept you in existence, for the sake of showing you my power and in order to have my name declared in all the earth.

(Psalm 72:19) And blessed be his glorious name to time indefinite, And let his glory fill the whole earth. Amen and Amen

(Psalm 86:9) All the nations whom you have made will themselves come, And they will bow down before you, O Jehovah, And will give glory to your name

"Jehovah" is the best known English pronunciation of the divine name, although "Yahweh" is favored by most Hebrew scholars. The oldest Hebrew manuscripts present the name in the form of four consonants, commonly called the Tetragrammaton (from Greek te·tra-, meaning "four," and gram´ma, "letter"). These four letters (written from right to left) are יהוה and may be transliterated into English as YHWH (or, JHVH) but LORD is just a title not his name
Jesus’ own name means "Jehovah Is Salvation." He stated: "I have come in the name of my Father" (Joh 5:43); he taught his followers to pray: "Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified" (Mt 6:9); his works, he said, were done "in the name of my Father" (Joh 10:25); and, in prayer on the night of his death, he said he had made his Father’s name manifest to his disciples and asked, "Holy Father, watch over them on account of your own name" (Joh 17:6, 11, 12, 26). In view of all of this, when Jesus quoted the Hebrew Scriptures or read from them he certainly used the divine name, Jehovah.............. still i dont think this thread is supposed to be a debate thread it is a thread about favourite verses and here is one of mine
For "everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved." However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard? How, in turn, will they hear without someone to preach? How, in turn, will they preach unless they have been sent forth? Just as it is written: "How comely are the feet of those who declare good news of good things!...romans 10;13-15

Mee

I agree with you that Lord isn't exactly the same as Yhwh.
You insist that God wants to be given his proper name.
Then why use the wrong name Jehovah ?
Before we agree on a pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton, you should stop using a faulty spelling, because that would be contradicting yourself.

No worries we all use the name that we know to be correct in the english language ,and by the way its not me insisting any thing ,i am quoting the bible which is Gods word not mine so here is another favourite of mine
(Isaiah 42:8) "I am Jehovah. That is my name; and to no one else shall I give my own glory, neither my praise to graven images

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

As a Christian I am somewhat surprised that Christians accord such priority to those names of God other than the one which Christ gave us - Abba, or Father - the name he used Himself consistently throughout the New Testament.

The relationship thus established by, through, in and with Jesus takes priority over all other names and all other relations - precisely because the Old Testament names do not signify the relationship of sonship proclaimed and instituted by Jesus himself.

All the moreso when the pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton is, at best, an informed guess, as the manner and method of pronunciation of this Sacred Name, once handed on through oral tradition, has long been lost.

Just an observation...

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

The pronunciation of Yhwh could not have been handed down orally before it got lost because it was forbidden to pronounce it.
To help the faithful the vowels of Adonay and Elohim were added to Yhwh to make them remember not to use Yhwh and replace it by those two other names.
Of course people who don't know Jewish customs think those vowels belong to the name Yhwh and they mispronounce it "Yehovah" or "Jehovah".
Christians have a tendency to forget about the OT as if the NT had cancelled it. Those Christians that think Christianity is a new religion don't need to show interest in those OT matters.

Jewish research suggests otherwise. I think you will find pronunciation of the name was acceptable at one time.

Nonsense. Christians believe the NT supercedes the old, but does not cancel it. The OT forms by far the greater portion of the Christian Bible - the NT is the 'spirit' of the OT 'letter'.

My point was that some people seem to have learnt nothing from the NT. Or are you saying we should ignore Jesus, and stick to the OT?

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

Yes, the kohen ha-gadol, the high priest, knew the pronunciation and was allowed to pronounce it once a year. It was a taboo to all the other Jews. So why should they hand it down orally to each other?

If the OT is the "letter" of the Bible, let's go on talking about letters.

Re: Favorite Bible Quotes

so here is another favourite two verses

(Ezekiel 36:23) ‘And I shall certainly sanctify my great name, which was being profaned among the nations, which YOU profaned in the midst of them; and the nations will have to know that I am Jehovah,’ is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah, ‘when I am sanctified among YOU before their eyes

I have made your name manifest to the men you gave me out of the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have observed your word...John 17;6............yes Jesus made Gods name manifest and so should the followers of Jesus christ.

Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things....matthew 28;19-20

Let's keep the name of God to its own thread and favorite bible quotes to its own thread...thanks.
