IMHO, Billy Joel is one of the great songwriter, poet, performers of this or any era. I also believe that some of his earliest works are the most meaningful in a poetic sense. Here's a brief selection of several good ones for your enjoyment.

I am watching this and I think it is fabulous:

YouTube - Peace is a hug away: Free Hugs in Jaffa, Israel

So extra big cyber hugs to Dauer and BB (and anyone else of the Jewish faith that reads this).

Nice. I saw a teenager last weekend wearing a t-shirt that read "FREE HUGS [available here]." The "[available here]" portion of the shirt hung a little too low, near the pelvic region, so that was either a bit unfortunate or hilarious, or both.

Right. Have y'all seen the original free hugs video? It too is moving. And it is cool that this is catching on as a real movement.

Peace,
Pathless

Some more tunes from my "misspent youth" (four from the same group this time :D):

I dare some of you to be able to sit still during Super Trouper and Chiquitita. :D

This is a video about NASA's CoLab facility in Second Life:

And Bye Bye Beautiful off of the new Nightwish album which said goodbye to Tarja and hello to Anette:

YouTube - Nightwish - Bye Bye Beautiful

Knowing the drama that happened between her and the rest of the band, the lyrics are a little sad.

Finally the hills are without eyes
They are tired of painting a dead man's face red
With their own blood

They used to love having so much to lose
Blink your eyes just once and see everything in ruins

Did you ever hear what I told you
Did you ever read what I wrote you
Did you ever listen to what we played
Did you ever let in what the world said
Did we get this far just to feel your hate
Did we play to become only pawns in the game
How blind can you be, don't you see
You chose the long road but we'll be waiting

Bye bye beautiful
Bye bye beautiful

Jacob's ghost for the girl in white
Blindfold for the blind
Dead siblings walking the dying earth

Noose around a choking heart
Eternity torn apart
Slow toll now the funeral bells

”I need to die to feel alive”

Did you ever hear what I told you
Did you ever read what I wrote you
Did you ever listen to what we played
Did you ever let in what the world said
Did we get this far just to feel your hate
Did we play to become only pawns in the game
How blind can you be, don't you see
You chose the long road but we'll be waiting

Bye bye beautiful
Bye bye beautiful

It's not the tree that forsakes the flower
But the flower that forsakes the tree
Someday I'll learn to love these scars
Still fresh from the red-hot blade of your words

...How blind can you be, don't you see...
...that the gambler lost all he does not have...

I don't know anything about them, but judging from the video itself and the amount of material on youtube and Tarja's dramatic new solo song, "I Walk Alone," I'd say that yeah, drama is the right word. ;)

One of my favorite bands from my tired and lonely teenage years, Dinosaur Jr, has been recently revitalized. Their live shows are unassuming yet incredible. Powerful, powerful melodic guitar playing by J Mascis. Well, some people might not hear the melodies, but those people are probably stuck in the bubblegum pop of the 1950s.

YouTube - Dinosaur Jr --Henry Rollins Show

YouTube - Dinosaur Jr On the late late show= (nervous TV performance. Poor J :( )

YouTube - Dinosaur Jr on the Late Show 04.30.2007= (more relaxed n rockin'. I like David Letterman's response after they finish playing, especially in light of his doubtful, 'who-the-hell-are-these-guys?' note-card readin' intro)
