Another Media "Star" Passed

1693

"Last of the summer Wine" is one of my all time favorite TV series. I still watch rebroadcasts on my local PBS affiliate. Nearly all of the main characters have now passed.
As Norman Clegg would say, "Peter Sallis was delightfully balmy." I always liked that bloke. Last of the Summer Wine still airs down here too. Wasn't the same after Bill Owen died though.

When I was growing up my mom had this annoying habit of pointing out everyone who had since passed in whatever we were watching on TV. Man I hated that. Now I'm doing it. Good grief I've become my mom!
That sounds like a new thread all its own :)

June Foray just passed away at the tender age of 99.

"Who?" you ask?

She was the voice of Rocky and Natasha in the Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle show as well as Granny in the Loony Tunes cartoons, Talky Tina in the original Twilight Zone, plus several others (her filmography: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004931/?ref_=nv_sr_1) I'm beginning to feel old right about now. :(

Glen Campbell just passed away at the tender age of 81, succumbing to complications of Alzheimer's Disease.

"Who?" you ask?

He was rather famous in the country-western music genre, with hits like Wichita Lineman, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Rhinestone Cowboy, Galveston as well as several others, plus he played with the Beach Boys on Pet Sounds as well as taking over Brian Wilson's parts during their tours for a while.

Here's a video about him by a couple of music critics/reporters:

Dick Gregory passed away at 84.

"Who?" you ask?

He was a comedian and civil rights activist, getting more involved in the movement mainly after the deaths of Medgar Evars and Martin Luther King Jr. He allegedly told a heckler to go to the NAACP headquarters and ask for the white washroom if he wanted excitement (after the other guy gave him a hard time.)

Type 1? Juvenile diabetes? If that is true he lived a record long time with it.

It depends on when he was first diagnosed and how well he monitored/controlled his glucose levels. The better the control, the less likely the patient will have complications (like cardiovascular disease, stroke, kidney disease, neuropathy, etc.)

"Juvenile" diabetes can occur in people over the age of 18 (like with my diabetes educator, who was diagnosed when he was 19 [he was a semiprofessional athlete prior to that, and he continued after his diagnosis].)
